Safety, SOPs and skills training for workers on the shop floor.
Train clinical and non-clinical staff across shifts and sites, prove who completed mandatory training, and keep certificates and records ready for audits, on the web and on staff phones.
Healthcare training has three problems most industries do not face together. Staff work around the clock, so there is no single time to gather everyone. Much of the training is mandatory, so you must be able to show who completed it and passed. And the workforce changes constantly, with new starters, agency staff and rotations that all need onboarding quickly.
A learning management system solves the logistics: courses are available whenever a shift allows, completion is tracked automatically, and records are ready when a manager, accreditor or inspector asks for them. For the basics, see what is an LMS.
| Training area | Typical content | What the LMS adds |
|---|---|---|
| Onboarding | Policies, systems, ward orientation, role induction | A consistent programme for every new starter, tracked to completion |
| Mandatory and compliance | Infection control, patient safety, data protection, fire safety | Assignment by role, tests, certificates and completion reports |
| Clinical skills refreshers | Procedures, equipment, medication safety | Video demonstrations plus live practice sessions with attendance |
| Continuing professional development | Specialty updates, case reviews, leadership | Learning records staff can use for their own CPD |
| Patient and carer education | Condition guides, recovery programmes | A separate branded space for patients on higher plans |
Courses combine short video lessons, documents and quizzes that staff can complete in the time available. The mobile app lets them learn on a break, and higher plans add offline lessons for areas with weak signal and publish the app under your organisation's name.
Tests are graded automatically for objective questions, certificates are issued on completion, and reports show completion, results and attendance by learner and group on every plan. See certificates and training records.
Instructor-led sessions run on Zoom or Google Meet, scheduled by group, with attendance marked automatically and, on higher plans, recordings published back to staff who could not attend.
Groups of hospitals, clinic chains and care providers can keep each site's staff and training separate on higher plans, while central teams set the programme. Reports for each organisation are included on the top plan.
Roles control who can see and manage what. On higher plans you can add single sign-on, two-factor sign-in, audit logs and sign-ups limited to your organisation's email domain. Always confirm your own regulatory and data-protection requirements with your compliance team when choosing any platform.
Hospitals combine every healthcare training challenge at once: hundreds of staff across clinical, nursing, allied-health, administrative and support roles, round-the-clock rotas, frequent new starters and rotating students, and departments that each have their own required courses. A hospital LMS works best when training is assigned by department and role, delivered in short modules staff can finish on a break, and backed by live skills sessions for procedures that must be practised.
Hospital groups and multi-site providers can keep each hospital or clinic separate on higher plans, with a central team setting the core curriculum and, on the top plan, reports for each site. Department heads get completion and test reports for their own staff on every plan.
Our LMS implementation checklist covers each step, and employee training software covers workplace training more broadly.
